DBA - 9 September 2015

After a break of many years, we played a DBA later medieval mini-tournament this week.  Andy played Ottomans, James Burgundians, Deej Teutonic Knights, and Adrian Polish.  The two competitions in parallel on the kitchen table worked well and we were soon back into the flow of the rules.  DBA 2.1 is a very good game, simple enough to get 3 games completed in an evening, but involved enough for it to be a real challenge with each game on a knife edge throughout.  The results were:

Teutonic Knights beat Ottomans
Burgundians beat Polish
Polish beat Ottomans
Teutonic Knights beat Burgundians
Polish beat Teutonic Knights
Burgundians beat Ottomans

Which left James, Deej and Adrian on 2 wins out of 3 each, and Andy alas with the wooden spoon of no victories - which we could all blame on the rather underpowered Ottomans (who lacked any Knights or hard-hitting infantry).  We'll do this again soon since the format worked very well indeed.

Show and Tell 28 December: 15mm Later Polish

The second Field of Glory battlegroup of Later Polish knights backed up by mounted crossbowmen. This lot are led by Krystyn of Ostrow (lady and bear flag), Iwo of Obichowa (bull's head flag) and Jan of Tarnow (star and crescent moon flag). Three more elements of the mounted crossbows to go and then the army will be FoG compliant. Once again the figures are Essex, the flags hand painted.

Show and Tell 10 November: 15mm Later Polish

I thought I’d start up a thread as a virtual Show and Tell of figures completed (not least to showcase the products of the pact between me and Andy to paint up the armies from Agincourt over the course of the next year). In the meantime, these are the first 3 elements of mounted crossbowmen needed to convert my Later Polish DBM army into a Field of Glory army. The FoG Knight battle groups for the Later Polish consist of a front rank of Knights and a rear rank of mounted crossbowmen (their retainers) allowing the BG to shoot. Not sure how effective these will be but I thought I’d have a go and paint them up. So these are the first three elements - I plan to do 9 in total to provide 3 BGs. The figures are Essex; the flags are handpainted; the heraldry of the whole army represents the Polish force at the Battle of Tannenberg in 1410. The pictures show the crossbowmen on their own and as the rear rank of their Battlegroup - led by Jakob of Koniecpol (Horseshoe flag), Sedziwog of Ostrorog (Loop of rope flag) and Jan Mezyk of Dabrowa (Fish flag).
